The Arthur Kill Terminal Facility that is being established to put together massive windmills before their transport out to sea continues despite being left off a new bevy of NY State funding announced by Kathy Hochul on October 24, 2023.

Another project it had formerly been paired with — Attentive Energy One — did get additional funding.

Republican  Councilman Joseph Borelli is for the project, despite Borelli being endorsed by Donald Trump who has said the giant off-shore windmills are a scam. The facility is being planed to be established at the foot of the Outerbridge Crossing.

“As it reads now, the Capitol region gets all the economic investment and we get stuck looking at turbines, and that’s if the state even manages to get anything built,” said Borelli. “At this point, why would any Staten Islander support the state’s overpriced under-performing energy plan?”

Representatives for Atlantic Offshore Terminals — the site’s developer — remain optimistic. Charles Dougherty, chief commercial officer for Atlantic Offshore Terminals (AOT), said “It is time for the state to step up, and I think the federal government is expecting the state to step up. We’re forging ahead. we’re continuing all of our activities. We’re getting close to wrapping up our permitting activities. Our design is complete. We’re in the middle of a construction [request for proposal], so we’re in very detailed conversations with contractors about the construction of the port. Nevertheless, it is essential that the state provides support here financially. And we fully expect that it will.”
